5,000 sq ft, 12 weeks
Sofar Sounds was started in London in March 2009 and transforms everyday spaces – like a living room or retail shop – and turns it into a captivating venue for secret, live shows, creating an immersive experience that brings guests and artists closer together. Each Sofar is small, and typically features three diverse acts, with no headliner. Sofar Sounds put on about 500 gigs per month in more than 300 cities worldwide. The company has taken the top floor of the Administration building (made entirely from ship containers) with the intent of creating an environment that had the right balance of creative, operational and management areas.
This project was a combined Cat A and Cat B build. Working closely with The Roundhouse on the Cat A element included installation of wiring, plumbing, flooring and dedicated Air Conditioning. In conjunction with this, bespoke joinery items were installed along with feature lighting, glazed partitioning, a full furniture solution and decoration throughout. The challenges here were the installation of a new raised access flooring throughout which needed to work with huge height differentials across the existing floor and structural weight restrictions. Bringing the exterior walls up to current required U values and within building control requirements was also a challenge given the site conditions – all this within a very tight programme of just 12 weeks.
The office is open plan with a stylish teapoint and large breakout area that can open up to create an events space. A central desk area allows for flexible and agile working. The office provides the opportunity for collaboration across different departments, which is integral to Sofar’s ethos and culture.
